Green tea is becoming popular due to its several health benefits. Along with heath benefits, it also has positive effects on your hair. Green tea helps to reduce hair fall, promotes growth, helps to cure dandruff problem and makes your hair shiny.

Green Tea Benefits for Hair

Stimulates the growth of hair

Green tea is one of the several brews that help in hair growth. If you feel like your hair is growing slowly and you want it to grow quicker then drinking green tea might help you.

The chemical called Epigallocathechin Gallate (EGCG) in the tea helps in preventing hair loss. Also, it stops the production of Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF), one of the major reasons for hair fall.

A research conducted by Korean scientists claimed that EGCG found in green tea boosts up hair growth by stimulating the actions of dermal papillae.

Researches have proved that stress is one of the major reasons for hair loss. It has also been proved that the polyphenolic elements in green tea reduce stress level with its relaxing effect, preventing loss of hair.

Solution to dandruff and Psoriasis

Green tea helps in reducing the symptoms of dandruff and psoriasis (a condition in which skin cells build up and form itchy, dry scales).

You can apply green tea directly on your hair after your regular shampoo or get the natural shampoo that contains green tea as an active element.

Remember! If you are buying a green tea shampoo, prefer those which do not contain ingredients such as ammonium, sodium lauryl / laureth sulfates and parebens. They may cause scalp irritation.

A group research conducted in medical college of Augusta, USA, discovered significant reduction of flakes on the mice's skin after applying green tea.

The antiseptic ingredients found in green tea removes the layers that may become hurdle for hair follicles, inhibiting their blockage and letting hairs to develop again.

Reduces hair fall

It was originally noted that the catechins present in green tea halted the production of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT); a substance primarily responsible for hair loss in men and women.

However, recent studies have proved that it is the polyphenolic (anti-inflammatory) substances in the green tea that promotes hair growth.

Does green tea prevent hair loss?

Green tea does not actually stops hair loss but the intake of polyphenol present in the green tea is known for stimulating hair growth.

A study on mice stricken with hair loss proved that green tea ceased hair fall. The research showed that hair fall ceased and new hair grew in mice which received green tea regularly with their drinking water. On the other hand, no improvement was seen in mice which did not receive green tea.

Although, the research concluded that the green tea helped in stopping hair fall in mice, it would not be applicable on us. The green tea fed to the mice had high concentration of polyphenols which is absent in our cups.

Other Benefits of green tea

Green tea is rich in ingredients such as vitamin C, vitamin E, panthenol, etc. Vitamin C protects your hair from UV rays, vitamin E restores damaged hair and panthenol prevents split ends.

Green tea also has various anti-oxidants which contributes healthy blood circulation in the hair follicles.
